Provider Resources

"For every $1 you spend on perinatal care and drug treatment for the pregnant woman, you save $2.70 in medical care for the infant in the first year of life."

Physicians have the most influence in helping women who are using tobacco, alcohol and other drugs to agree to get treatment.

Screening for tobacco, drugs, alcohol use is most successful when it is integrated into the context of primary care during the perinatal period.

Treatment

If you're pregnant and drink or use drugs, it's not too late to stop. If you quit now, you'll give your baby a better chance in life.

Your Doctor Is Someone You Can Trust

Talking honestly with your doctor about your needs is the first step to a clean and healthy pregnancy. You can talk to your doctor about any drug use, whether it's tobacco, alcohol, marijuana, meth, cocaine, or other drugs. He/She will tell you what choices you have so that you can make the best decision for you and your family.

Your Doctor Can Connect You with Help

If your doctor refers you for help:

  • The decision is yours.
  • Most women get the help they need in outpatient treatment.
  • Your children can receive treatment with you.
