Breastfeeding Task Force

The goal of the Babies First Breastfeeding Task Force is to increase the number of women in Fresno County who breastfeed optimally through their infant's first year of life. The Task Force meets several times a year and participates in World Breastfeeding Week and California Breastfeeding Month as well as other events that raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding.

Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk

The 9th Annual Babies First Breastfeeding Awareness Walk and Celebration was held on August 2, 2014 at Woodward Park - Mountain View Shelter. The Babies First Breastfeeding Task Force event was supported by 30 community sponsors and attended by over 600 walk participants. The Breastfeeding Task Force was presented with a Breastfeeding Congressional Certificate from Congressman Jim Costa to acknowledge the Breastfeeding Task Force’s continued commitment to increasing public awareness of the importance of breastfeeding for the health of mothers and babies.  Fresno County Board of Supervisors Also in attendance was Fresno County’s Supervisor Henry Perea on behalf of the Fresno County Board of Supervisors to present the Breastfeeding Awareness Month in Fresno County Proclamation.
Also featured was the Big Latch On, a national event that aimed to break the record for the most women breastfeeding simultaneously across the United States. This year, over 100 breastfeeding moms participated in the Big Latch On. They were joined by thousands of other breastfeeding moms at hundreds of different events around the country.
The success of the Annual Awareness Walk was made possible by many community sponsors, volunteers, walk participants and their families.
